368. 「時」に関する表現: 「現在」

「現在、最前面に表示されている」という一節を英訳するなら、「currently displayed on the front surface」ではなく、文脈によっては、「displayed at that time on the front surface」が適切です。この例のように「現時点」を意味しない「現在」の使い方は、「最新」の例と同様、日本人以外には理解が難しいでしょう。いずれにせよ、英訳時に「current」と「present」は使わない方が良いでしょう。

「現在のところXシリーズについて、厚生労働省関連(薬事、食品)の認可が下りているという情報はないとのことで」という一節を英訳するなら、

they say that there is no information that Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare-related approval (pharmaceutical affair and food) for X-series was given at the moment

よりも、

the company indicated that at the time they had no evidence (あるいは「information」) to suggest that the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (pharmaceutical affairs and food section) had given approval for the X-series

の方が適切です。この例では、過去形「indicated」が使われているので、「at the time」が必要となります。
