332. 「degree」
「安定した精度」に相当する英語表現としては、「stable accuracy」よりも、「a stable degree of accuracy」の方がはるかに良いでしょう。繰り返しになりますが、「accuracy」は抽象概念なので、「degree」を伴うのが適切です。
「目標制駆動力もしくは目標ヨーモーメントを達成できない場合に、各車輪の制駆動力によって達成可能な制駆動力およびヨーモーメントの範囲内にて車輪の制駆動力の大きさもしくはヨーモーメントの大きさができるだけ大きくなるように目標制駆動力もしくは目標ヨーモーメントを補正する車両挙動制御装置」という表現も同様で、

「過酷度の評価一覧表」に相当する英語表現としては、
categorization of the degree of severity
が妥当です。
「ネジ山強度を維持する」という一節を英訳するなら、
maintain a specified thread strength
よりも、
maintain a predetermined degree of thread strength
の方が適切です。
「締め付けを強くする」という一節なら、
intensify tightening
と単純に訳すよりも、
intensify the degree of tightening
の方がはるかに好ましいでしょう。
「熱エネルギーのロスを低減する」という一節も同様で、
reduce the loss in the thermal energy
よりも、
reduce the degree of losses in thermal energy
の方がはるかに良いでしょう。この一節には「性」も「度」も使われていませんが、日本語の「ロス」は「degree」の意味を伴います。したがって、低減されるのは「degree of losses」ということになります。
「高い接着強度を有する」という一節を英訳するなら、
have a high adhesive strength
という単純な表現よりも、
have a high degree of adhesive strength
の方がはるかに好ましいでしょう。
「電波の反射が少ないダミー物体」に相当する英語表現は、
a dummy item that reflects radio wave little
ではなく、
a dummy body that reflects radio waves to a limited degree
です。
「十分に緩み止め作用を発揮することができる。」という一文を英訳するなら、
A sufficient anti-loosening effect can be exerted.
よりも、
An adequate degree of loosening prevention effects can be achieved.
の方が適切です。
「すなわち、Xに関して、発明の詳細な説明には、その指針すら示されておらず、当業者に過当の試行錯誤を強いるものである。」という一文を英訳するなら、
Specifically, regarding X, the Detailed Description of the Invention does not show even the guideline, and forces those skilled in the art to do excessive trials and errors.
よりも、

の方が正確かつ自然です。ちなみに、「trial and error」は定型表現であり、最初の訳文に見られるような複数形で使われることはありません。
「また、上述のように両フランクをステップ状に形成するためには、両フランクなどを形成するためのAとBとの相対位置調整を高精度にする必要があり、作業性が低く製造コストの増加を招く。」という一文なら、

よりも、

と訳す方が正確かつ適切です。最初の訳文は、「at a high precision」など、文法的な間違いがかなりあり、whereby節に特に欠陥があります。この一文は、英語では二文に分けるのが好適な長い和文の好例です。
「Cの粘りはDの粘りより高くなっている」という一節なら、
the viscosity of C is higher than the viscosity of D
ではなく、
the degree of viscosity of C is higher than that of D
が適訳です。
「このために、Bよりも大きな力をAに加えなければなりません。」という一文を英訳するなら、
Because of this structure it is required to apply larger force to A than the force applied to B.
よりも、
This structure necessitates applying to A a degree of force that is greater than the force applied to B.
の方が適切です。
「Xの硬さはYの硬さより硬い」という一節なら、
the hardness of X is higher than the hardness of Y
ではなく、
the degree of hardness of X is higher than that of Y
が適訳です。この種の表現を訳す場合には、英語では何が比較されているのか慎重に検討することが重要です。(訳者註: 個人的には、X is harder than Y. とか、X is higher in hardeness than Y. で十分に表せるような気がしますが…)
「多少の差はあれ」に相当する英語表現としては、
larger or smaller
ではなく、
differences to a greater or smaller degree
が適切です。
