実に訳しにくい日本語表現の一例ですが、妥当と言える翻訳案を挙げるなら、

It is my impression that the nature of human beings can be regarded as being made up of a mixture of two distinct traits, one of being attached to one’s individual fortes and the other of being attached to one’s personal connections.

といったところでしょう。

「自分が思っていることだけにこだわる」という一節なら、

to stick to one’s own opinions

と訳すのが適切です。
