For these reasons automobile manufacturers began to take the line that components that were being procured by any company in the Group at the cheapest prices would be used throughout the entire Group.

For these reasons automobile manufacturers began to adopt the stance that components that were being procured by any company in the Group at the cheapest prices would be used throughout the entire Group.

For these reasons automobile manufacturers began to adopt a policy of using throughout the entire Group components that were already being procured at the cheapest prices by any one of the companies within the Group.

この種の文では、「if Japan does not reform」や「if Japan did not reform」のような直訳をしないよう注意が必要です。

Japan was in a situation where there could be no expectations of subsequent (くだけた表現にするなら「of future」) prosperity without radical reforms of the structure of both the economy and Japanese society.

Japan was in a situation where there could be no expectations of subsequent (くだけた表現にするなら「of future」) prosperity unless there were radical reforms of the structures of both the economy and Japanese society.
